Such a special occasion having our mosaic blessed by Rt Revd Marcus Stock, Bishop of Leeds 21 May 2022.
I felt really honoured to be commissioned by St Aelred of Rievaulx Catholic Church in Harrogate, North Yorkshire to create this mosaic remembering those lost during the pandemic, and throughout our lives.
I created the mosaic to brief in my home studio and the congregation added the border tiles. The initials of family and friends no longer with us were added to the back of the tiles to be forever incorporated in this fitting memorial image of Mary comforting Jesus.
The NHS is represented in the rainbow in the robes. The mosaic will be installed inside the church above the entrance and opposite the altar.
The concept, fundraising effort and fruition of this commission is all down to one very special lady who acted so kindly on the behalf of many. Thank you so much.
